Christ the King Parish, Kubwa is part of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, under the pastoral leadership of His Grace Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama. We serve thousands of Catholic families across Kubwa and its environs.

From a humble prayer gathering at PW Housing Estate to a thriving parish known as the Golden Parish.

What is known today as Christ the King Catholic Church, Kubwa started with a group of enthusiastic and concerned Catholic lay faithful, mainly civil servants who relocated from Lagos to Abuja and settled at PW Housing Estate in Kubwa.

Among the pioneer families was the family of Chief and Mrs. Clement O. Ogar, in whose apartment at PW Housing Estate the first community prayer took place on Sunday, 19th March, 1989, a Sunday before Easter of the same year. Mrs. Thomas Bison also provided the initial leadership role.

1989

The First Gathering

Catholic lay faithful in Kubwa first gathered for community prayer at the home of Chief and Mrs. Clement O. Ogar in PW Housing Estate on Sunday, 19 March 1989.

The First Mass

The first Mass was celebrated on 9 April 1989 by Rev. Fr. Aloysius Udoh, then parish priest of St. Kizito Catholic Church, Bwari, which supervised the young Catholic community in Kubwa.

1992

A Permanent Home

Rev. Fr. Patrick Lambert Udoma purchased the present parish site in 1992. The foundation stone of the parish church was laid on Saturday, 21 November 1992 by John Cardinal Onaiyekan.

2006

Dedication of the Church

The present church building was completed and dedicated on 25 November 2006 by Archbishop John Onaiyekan during the tenure of Rev. Fr. Elias Goewam.

2012

Pastoral Expansion

The parish continued to grow with grottoes, pavilions for pious societies, and a rectory for retired and visiting priests, commissioned on 23 June 2012.

The Golden Parish

CKC Kubwa is now a vibrant parish family of over 6,000 parishioners, more than 50 societies and groups, and a growing legacy of worship, education, service and evangelization.
